Welcome back to the EC-47 History Site !

Thanks for responding to our email. As we explained, J.C. Wheeler had to give up the original site a while back, although he's still very much alive and well.

What we have now is really a new website, but we're focusing on the same objectives as always: Preserving the history of the EC-47 and the legacy of the men who flew and supported that fine old bird during the war in Southeast Asia. Click on "Home" at the top of the screen or any of the black bars on the left to check out the new content.

For example, we've obtained many of the now declassified unit histories of both the front end (TEWS) and back end (6994th Security Squadron) units, so after 50 years you can feel free to tell the grandkids what we did over there!

"Official" histories are nice, but we're still looking for material from the guys who were there. We've preserved as much of the original site as possible, but unfortunately some of the content has been lost. While we're all hunkered down waiting out COVID 19, dig out those old photos, jog the ol' memory banks, and share some memories from your tour. If you want to stroll down memory lane first, click here to visit the original site.

If you'd like to leave a shout out to former squadron mates, just click on the Guestbook tab and go for it. If you'd rather limit your response or have questions, use the form below. This page can only be seen by those who responded to the email.

Thanks again, and please do let us hear more from you!

Was in Vietnam at Tan San Nhut AB 1971-1972 (360th TEWS).  Lost everything when Pinatubo erupted in 1991 (I aw at Clark AB in the Philippines when Pinatubo erupted), so cannot provide any pictures or other data.  Retired the same year and now live in the Philippines with my wife and grandson.

My good friend Scott Nichols, forwarded this to me.  It appears my old e-mail address is still on your records.  My new address is [email protected].  It is so good to hear from my cohorts from ec-47.  Please keep me informed and let me know if you got this e-mail update request.  Regards.  68-69, 6994th in Saigon.

I was a member of the activation team that came TDY from the 6922nd Wing at Clark AB to TSN on 04/14/1966, under the command of (then MAJ) Bill Ballard. We worked with the ASA 509th RRU for the 59 days, then returned to Clark. I put a request in to go PCS to the 94th after Clark, but had already been assigned to go to the 6924th Sqdn at Da Nang.

Used to be on J.C.'s mailing list and spoke to him about the time he turned it over. I think he said he had given it up because of a health problem.  Before discharge, I was one of the crew who went down to Danang to get ready for the move from Pleiku.

I was at 360 TEWS Saigon for a year then I went to the OV-10 as a Rustic FAC out of Ubon then I went to Laos as a Raven FAC.  While I was flying Steel Tiger as a Raven I got a call from ABCCC saying that they had just received a call from an EC47 and they gave me the coordinates.  Most FACs didn’t respond to EC 47 tips because they never saw anything but since I flew the mission I knew what to look for.  As usual it was just trees but I called for air,  got a flight of Sandies that needed to dispose of their CBUs. I put them in on a triangle of tees.  None of us saw anything but when I got back to Savannakhet intel informed me that we had hit an Newly arrived NVA division and they had 80% casualties and were no longer combat ready!  All because I flew the EC-47, recognized the call sign and trusted the report.  Thought you guys might like to know.

From TSN back to Charleston C-141.  Became  the Special Mission Officer.  In 1973 promoted  LC  transferred to  Wright- Patterson  to get a Masters Degree in Logistics.  On graduation assigned to Eglin in Supply.  After  1-1/2 years got crossed swords with local Congress Man  who was ripping us off and got transferred  to Cincpac  as a Logee.  Great job promoted to Col.  Soon reassigned to Andrews.  Returned to Pacaf  1980 and retired in 1984.  Moved to Las Vegas in 1990, still there.  Long story.

Yep! Still here.  I miss my t-shirts that had a goon on the back, which after 50 years have finally weathered away.  Should someone decide to reestablish the flying goon again on t-shirts, I'd love to be your first customer.
