09 September 2006 CALL TO ORDER Vice President Rick Yeh called the meeting to order at 1315 hours, with approximately 72 Crewmembers in attendance. SECRETARY’S REPORT The first order of business was the reading of the minutes from the May 2005 meeting by treasurer, Jim Trozzo. The secretary, Doug Milton, was unable to attend this year. The minutes were corrected to read that Danny Russell was on the reunion committee rather than Dave Lott, and Linda Corbin (Ken) represented the 94th rather than the 361 TEWS. After the corrections were noted, the minutes were approved unanimously. TREASURER’S REPORT The next order of business was the financial report. Treasurer, Jim Trozzo read the final report after the close of business, Reunion 2005, reflecting a bank balance of $3654.91, a net worth decrease $2031.67 over the previous reunion. An estimated financial report was presented based on the expenses and revenues as of noon this date. The beginning bank balance of $3654.90, revenues of $9,856.00, estimated expenses of $7,194.02 would leave a bank balance of $6,316.89, with a net worth increase of $2,661.98. The vote to accept the financial report as read was approved unanimously. Good of the Order The Misawa Group 6921st donated a case of beer. There was discussion about creating a new logo for the EC-47 Association, one that would combine the units in a more homogeneous theme. The current “Old Flying Tiger” is one that reflects the TEWS only. Everyone was charged with submitting an idea for a logo. Danny Russell spoke about the wine ceremony that would take place at the banquet, and the generous donation of $500 from CMSgt K.J. Seals, to purchase it at an estimated cost of $300. Danny also noted that he had not heard from Seals since the Katrina disaster in his hometown. PRESENTATIONS Keith Struckman, an engineer from Sanders, Lockheed & Martin Company, the firm that designed and implemented the ARDF equipment in our aircraft, gave a detailed and comprehensive slideshow of how the program developed. His presentation discussed the problems incurred, and the accuracy issues that only statistical mathematical formulas could predict. He further shared the application to the Navy for over the horizon direction finding, and today’s newest technology that is being used. At the end of the program, President J. C. Wheeler presented Keith with the promise of a print by Scott Albee, of an EC-47 ARDF mission. Tom Hutchings, a 94th member shared about 300 slides from his collection reflecting the current day Vietnam. Tom, once an Orange County, California police officer, now lives in Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon as most of the members called it. The highlights of the slide-show presentation were the faces of the people, the sights of the country, and the headquarters of COSVN, the target we all hunted for everyday we flew in the general area. ELECTION OF OFFICERS It was moved by David Brooks, and seconded by Ed Wheeler, to retain the EC-47 Officers as they currently stand. The vote was unanimous. REUNION SELECTION Nominations for the site of the next reunion to be held within 18-24 months (May-September, 2008) were opened to the floor.
The cities nominated were: The city receiving the most votes was San Antonio, Texas, with the recommendation to approach the same hotel used on two previous occasions. PRIZE DRAWINGS In addition to the door prizes gathered by President J. C. Wheeler, Brad Shaffer of NAPA, donated dozens of additional prizes including a Waltrip NASCAR racing jacket. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 1615 hours by the presiding officer. Respectfully Submitted, James D. “TROZ” Trozzo Acting Secretary
